ELIOS is an implant-free, excimer laser technology – an innovative glaucoma treatment that can be performed at the same time as cataract surgery and preserve the patient’s trabecular meshwork. Their goal is to combine cataract and glaucoma treatment to elevate the standard of care, and they wanted to evolve their brand identity to reflect that sentiment.
ELIOS tasked us with developing a stronger brand identity and a website that educates and appeals to the ophthalmology market in Europe.
ELIOS’s new brand pattern is a vector flow field. Flow fields are diagrams that map or visualize the direction and magnitude of a fluid or force in a given space. We connected this to the restoration of flow of fluid in the eye to rebalance intraocular pressure. In early concepting for the rebrand, one of our directions depicted the ELIOS procedure as a new direction for glaucoma intervention, so the vector flow field visual was a nice way to encapsulate this idea.
Because ELIOS uses a non-thermal excimer laser, MJM developed visuals that felt high tech, cool, and dramatic, but that did not have connotations of heat/burning. We used the color violet as a reference to the wavelength of the excimer laser, which is in the ultraviolet range. These blue tones counteract the heat connotations that come with warmer hues.
Since ELIOS offers the only glaucoma procedure that uses an excimer laser, elements of their rebrand focused on educating their markets on their unique solution and the benefits of early intervention. We updated their website with a new look and made it accessible for the European market in five different languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
We pushed this branding further by creating vibrant, stunning booths for Elios to display at The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) conferences—the biggest gathering of ophthalmologists in the region.
